Hurricane News for Longboat Harbour This page is reserved to provide specific information regarding any storm that may have had an impact on Longboat Harbour. The tragic consequences of the hurricanes that ravaged much of Florida in 2004 proved to be a wake up call for the residents of the Sunshine State. Our Board, in light of these events, established a “Disaster Planning Committee” under the chairmanship of Florence Harr. Its members, in addition to Florence, are Barbara Hulyk, Ernie Giordano, our manager Sabrina Wengerd and Bart Wassmansdorf. A key element in the Disaster Plan is the communication to owners as to the conditions at Longboat Harbour. In the aftermath of the storms that affected Charlotte County in 2004 it quickly became evident that the phone system was overloaded. Significant portions of the communication system are reserved for emergency and government use, thus reducing lines available to non emergency personnel. In addition, property managers found that incoming calls clogged up their own phones such that it was difficult to make outgoing calls to deal with conditions within their respective communities and buildings. Consequently, the Disaster Planning Committee has set up a system under which a number of our owners, who are in places unlikely to be affected by the storms, are to be the resources for information. First - Do NOT call the office at Longboat Harbour. These phones must be reserved for use in the recovery process. Second - If you can get access to the Internet, this should be your first step to learn of conditions at LbH. Bookmark this site for quick access: www.longboatharbour.net. Information will be posted as it becomes available to the webmaster. Third - If you cannot retrieve the information you want on the website, contact any one of the people on the list included below. These individuals have volunteered to receive your calls. Every attempt will be made to get up-to-date information to these people promptly. They, in turn, will receive your calls and inform you about the conditions in our area. It is important that we do not stress the communications system. Moreover, it is important to allow those at the site to be effective in the recovery process. Please - start with the web site to retrieve information; then call an owner not normally in residence. We will make every attempt to spread the word without overloading the local communications systems. These sources will have information only relating to Longboat Harbour. |

Off-Site Contacts For updates on any serious storm please contact one of the owners who are not at Longboat Harbour and who will receive information from Longboat Harbour as it becomes available.
